Frequently Asked Questions

What is LOLER and why do I need it?

LOLER stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. It requires that all lifting equipment is thoroughly examined by a competent person at regular intervals to ensure it's safe to use. Non-compliance can result in fines, legal action, and most importantly, workplace accidents.

How often do I need LOLER inspections?

Inspections are required every 6 or 12 months depending on the equipment and its usage. High-risk or frequently used equipment needs more frequent checks. We can advise on the exact schedule for your operations.

Do you provide lift planning for construction sites?

Yes, we specialise in lift planning for construction, engineering, and industrial projects. This includes calculating crane requirements, positioning, rigging, and ensuring all safety protocols are followed.

Are your inspectors qualified?

Absolutely. Our lead examiner is a fully qualified and LEEA-approved competent person with extensive experience in lifting equipment inspections and lift planning.

What is a loose tackle examination?

A loose tackle exam (also called a loose tackle examination or thorough examination of loose tackle) covers items such as slings, shackles, hooks, eyebolts, and lifting beams — any lifting accessory that isn't permanently attached to a crane or hoist. Under LOLER, these must be thoroughly examined by a competent person at least every 6 months. We provide loose tackle exams across Lincolnshire and the wider UK.

Do you cover areas outside Lincolnshire?

Yes. While we are based in Lincolnshire, we regularly travel to carry out LOLER inspections and lift planning across Yorkshire, the East Midlands, and other regions throughout the UK. If you have a project anywhere in the country, get in touch and we'll discuss what we can arrange.

What industries do you work with?

We work across a wide range of industries including construction, civil engineering, manufacturing, utilities, offshore, and infrastructure. Whether you need on-site LOLER inspections at a construction site or lift planning for a specialist industrial project, we have the experience to help.

What is the difference between a LOLER inspection and a loose tackle exam?

A LOLER inspection is the overarching thorough examination of lifting equipment required under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. A loose tackle exam is a specific type of LOLER inspection focused on detachable lifting accessories. Both are required to maintain legal compliance and are carried out by our LEEA-approved examiner.
